How to care for Carnivorous Plants

By following these simple care instructions you will be ensuring your new arrangements thrive, strive and most importantly stay alive!

Light

  • Place your Succulents in bright places with plenty of indirect sunlight
  • 4-6 hours of morning sun is ideal
  • If indoors, a sunny windowsill works best

Water

  • Water only when the soil is completely dry
  • Soak the soil thoroughly, then let excess water drain
  • Avoid letting your succulent sit in water

Soil

  • Use well-draining cactus or succulent soil
  • Avoid regular potting soil, which holds too much moisture

Pot

  • Chose pots with drainage holes to prevent root rot

Temperature

  • Succulents prefer temperatures between 15-27 degrees Celsius
  • Protect from frost and extreme heat

Fertiliser

  • Feed lightly during the growing season with a diluted succulent fertiliser
  • Your arrangement comes with fertiliser in the soil so you shouldn't need to worry about this for 3-6 months from purchase

Tips

  • Remove dead leaves from the bottom of the plant or yellowing leaves as this will help to promote new growth and maintain plant health
  • Watch for signs of overwatering (mushy leaves) or underwatering (wrinkled leaves)

Remembering these tips will ensure your Succulents stay vibrant, healthy and most importantly alive!

How to care for Carnivorous Plants

Carnivorous plants are fascinating additions to any home or garden. With their unique adaptations and striking appearances, they can thrive with the right care. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you keep your carnivorous plants healthy and happy.

Choosing the Right Plant

  • Popular Varieties: Venus Flytrap, Pitcher Plant, Sundew, Butterwort
  • Consider Your Environment: Some species prefer humid, warm conditions, while others tolerate cooler climates

Light Requirements

  • Bright, Indirect Sunlight: Most carnivorous plants need at least 4-6 hours of bright, indirect sunlight daily
  • Artificial Lighting: If natural light is limited, use fluorescent or LED grow lights

Watering

  • Use Distilled or Rainwater: Tap water often contains minerals that can harm carnivorous plants
  • Keep Soil Moist: Maintain consistently damp soil, but avoid waterlogging
  • Tray Method: Place pots in a shallow tray of water to allow the soil to absorb moisture from the bottom

Soil and Potting

  • Nutrient-Poor Soil: Use a mix of sphagnum moss and perlite or sand
  • Avoid regular potting soil or fertilizers
  • Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years to refresh the soil and accommodate growth

Feeding

  • Natural Diet: Carnivorous plants catch their own prey, but you can supplement with small insects if needed
  • Do Not Overfeed: One or two insects per month is sufficient for most species
  • No Human Food: Never feed meat or processed foods

Humidity and Temperature

  • Humidity: Most species prefer 50-70% humidity. Use a humidity tray or misting if needed
  • Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C), depending on the species

Tips

  • Be patient—growth can be slow
  • Observe your plant’s needs and adjust care as necessary
  • Enjoy the unique beauty and behavior of your carnivorous companion!

Caring for carnivorous plants can be a rewarding experience. With the right environment and attention, these remarkable plants will thrive and continue to captivate you with their unusual habits.
